While Tanzanite is a very new gemstone to the market, it has become one of the most widely desired gemstones. The limited supply of Tanzanite, and its beauty, make it a valuable collectors gemstone and a perfect birthstone for December.

Natural Tanzanite is not generally that beautiful blue violet we are familiar with. Tha’s very rare naturally. It’s more a reddish brown, and through heat treatment the brown tone is removed, revealing the beautiful colours we know. There is some talk that this was discovered when someone noticed the beautiful colours of stones on the ground, after a bushfire. Not sure if that is true, but sounds very romantic.

Zircon comes in a wide range of colours, but it is the blue variety that makes it an ideal birthstone for December.

Used since antiquity, Zircons were very much favoured in Victorian times. They were commonly found in estate jewellery of the times.
