Born Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo on September 1, 1957 in Havana, Cuba.
She is a singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. In 1989 she released her best selling album Cuts Both Ways. While touring in March 20, 1990, she was critically injured, suffering a fractured spine when a semi-truck crashed into the tour bus she was in during a snowstorm. Her rehabilitation required almost a year of intensive physical therapy. On March 14, 2019, Gloria and her husband were awarded with the 2019 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. They are the first married couple and first of Hispanic descent to receive the Gershwin Prize.
